"... coisas frágeis podem sobreviver"

Eu tenho que confessar que, no começo, eu fiquei um pouco relutante com esse livro. Apesar de a escrita da Isabel ser uma obra de arte desde a primeira frase, eu senti que a história seria um pouco lenta, e que talvez não entregasse o que ela prometeu.

Eu tava errada.

O livro conta a história da Inez, uma garota Latino-America (sim, nós latinas sendo representadas!) tentando descobrir o mistério por trás do desaparecimento (e, talvez, morte) do seu pais, que estavam trabalhando no Egito. E então ela faz o que toda protagonista faria — ela vai para o Egito (sozinha, em uma época que isso seria um escândalo) para descobrir a verdade.

Inteligente.

O que me cativou mais em "What The River Knows" foi o fato de que Inez é Sul Americana. Apesar de ela ser Argentina, o fato de ela ser do mesmo continente que eu já gerou uma identificação, e até mesmo um orgulho, de finalmente ver o nosso Continente ser importante em uma história; ah! E também tinha o Egito que, em muitos livros, acaba sendo mal explorado, mas a forma como Isabel descreveu o país me fez querer MUITO viajar pra lá.

A Inez não é uma personagem chata, nem um pouco, mesmo que os pensamentos e reclamações dela sejam um pouco repetitivos — isso garante que nós consigamos entender quais são as metas e as necessidades dela.

Mas, como uma romântica incorrigível, eu tenho que dizer: a melhor parte foi o romance. Foi um slow-burn, e um dos sofridos.

Assistir o relacionamento da Inez e do Whit nascendo e crescendo, indo de um relacionamento 100% proibido (por vários motivos), passar pelo filtro da moral e do decoro (lembrem-se do contexto histórico) até o momento em que ele chega ao fim do livro foi a melhor parte!

E, olhem só: foi um friends to lovers.

Eu não consigo pensar em nada de ruim sobre esse livro, a não ser o fato de que ele é o primeiro de uma série em que nem o primeiro foi publicado ainda. Mal posso esperar pelas continuações!
