Como seria um mundo onde o comunismo fosse levado ao seu ápice?
Ayn Rand conseguiu simular esse mundo em Anthem, com uma estória futurística inicialmente perturbadora onde todos os homens são desprovidos de individualidade. Não tem nome, nem país, nem irmãos de sangue.

A narrativa é em primeira pessoa - do plural. A palavra "Eu" não existe. Os homens desse distópico lugar não conhecem o sentido de "ego". Nada pode ser feito por necessidades individuais. Desde o nascimento até a morte, "os homens do conselho" decidem o que cada pessoa deve ser à favor de todos. Não há famílias, não no sentido que conhecemos. Todos formam uma grande família. Não há amor entre duas pessoas, mas só o amor de todos por todos.

Ao ler a narrativa de Rand, temos a constante sensação de que eles voltaram à idade das pedras, só que, ao invés de por falta de conhecimento, foi por decreto.

Ao terminar a leitura ficou uma dúvida: como eles chegaram a esse ponto? Seria o socialismo uma porta de entrada para todo esse horror contra a vida? Seria o comunismo da Coreia do Norte um rascunho de tal aberração? E então vem a sensação de pânico: será que a atual onda socialista no Brasil e vizinhos é um caminho sem volta pra esse terror?
