Um livro que possui duas interpretações bem distintas.

Enquanto eu lia só conseguia pensar: "isso não é amor, é agressão", "não pede desculpas pela loucura desse homem, Whitney".
Eu me senti extremamente dividida enquanto lia esse livro porque meus princípios se incomodaram imensamente com o protagonista. Primeiro: um marido agressivo, tanto no quesito físico como psicológico, segundo: extremamente doente ao criar paranoias na cabeça dele e ser extremamente ameaçador e machista, terceiro: fazer com que a vítima se sinta culpada. E eu só pensava, "não adianta, quem agride uma vez, agride uma segunda, uma terceira e por aí vai...

Não entendo como isso tudo é amor. Foi um livro difícil porque eu realmente me apeguei a história, gostei sim, mas existiram momentos em que eu ficava indignada. Uma moça tão forte e que se rebaixa ao seu "senhor". Sei que a época em que o romance se passa contribuiu para tal, mas fiquei tão chocada em algumas cenas como o "estupro", em que depois ela fala pra ele que aguentaria aquela "dor" da perca da virgindade só pra fazê-lo feliz, me deixou tão lívida que tive que engolir. Sinto que um romance como este nos dias de hoje teria o pior dos fins.

Todavia, a Judith tem uma escrita tão rica, e cria uma teia tão intensa que é impossível não se viciar na história e até mesmo gostar. Aprendi sobre rendição. Sobre amor, e sobre nunca deixar de ser quem você é por achar que deve seguir o politicamente correto perante a sociedade. É um livro que divide e te deixar a mercê da sua própria concepção acerca do mesmo.
