"Me hão-de ler a mim e a ti, a nossa Farsália viverá..."

O tempo elege o cânone dos grandes clássicos essenciais, mas na minha opinião cometeu uma grande injustiça com esta obra, uma das mais subestimadas que já tive a oportunidade de ler. A causa pode até certo ponto ser justificada: é inescapável a sua comparação com a monumental "Eneida" de Virgílio, obra com a qual intencional e diretamente dialoga o tempo todo, e nessa comparação é inevitável acabar ficando eclipsada. Mas se conseguirmos transpôr os quase infindáveis trechos de catálogos e listas no melhor estilo do "catálogo dos navios" da Ilíada, iremos nos deparar com algumas das cenas, discursos e personagens mais marcantes e bem construídos da épica romana - a caracterização de Júlio César neste livro é algo que nunca irei esquecer - os deuses deixam de ser as divindades olímpicas e passam a ser os homens.
