Twisted Games on @historiaein
Hello, princesses and bodyguards!
Guys, seriously, I don't know why I took so long to take this book off my wishlist. Actually, I think I was just stalling with the first book in the series.
But look, "Twisted Games" is pure love!
And believe me, it didn't make any difference that I read the second book before the first. The stories are complementary, but you can enjoy them just fine out of chronological order.
I started with this one because I'm in love with the royalty versus bodyguard cliché. It's my literary guilty pleasure.
The passage of time is smooth, everything happens over about four years, and I think the author managed the stages of the relationship very well.
It's not all rushed, nor is it just "here's the romance, enjoy". From the beginning, it's clear that there's more to the plot.
Bridget's dilemmas about being royalty and the responsibilities she has to face are very realistic, without falling into the exaggerated fantasy of princes and princesses.
Rhys's past greatly contributes to building his personality, giving meaning to his actions and making a big difference in the outcome. The author doesn't use a magic wand to resolve all the couple's problems with one act.
On the contrary, it shows that Rhys is there to give Bridget a little push, revealing her potential. They are a team that supports each other, not a hero saving the day.
Anyway, I'm super excited to continue with these books. And I'm already thinking about having them all on my shelf as favorites because they deserve it so much!
So, what do you think? How about reading this story?
