bookish_ginger 25/01/2023- good premise, disappointing ending -*THERE MAY BE SPOILERS*
I feel somehow Frieda is a hit or miss for me. I've loved some of her books while I simply couldn't get into the hype of a few others. I can understand the reason why people liked this book but I think the hype may have been a little too much. It wasn't (by all means) a terrible story but the ending felt rushed and I haven't really connected with any of the characters all through the reading.
Perhaps I'm the problem, but I am so tired of the unreliable narrator trope... I hate reading an entire book trying to put the pieces together and figure the mystery out only to be told at the end that it was all a lie. I enjoyed the story up until the ending, then it lost me.
Overall, I enjoyed Freida's writing (as I usually do) and this won't stop me from reading another of her books but given the reviews here, I was hoping for more.
